There seems to be no end to the guest piano appearances on the excellent ABC drama Scandal. I know there is a plot somewhere, involving a president and a fixer and some really entertaining bad people, but here, in the Well Tempered Multiplex-- all we see are pianos.
In perhaps the most seductive piano reveal to date, deep in Season 3 President McDreamboat has Olivia flown on a White House helicopter to a grand love chalet in Vermont which somehow he has had time to oversee building while surviving an assassination attempt and leading the free world. All the furniture is covered, draped in muslin (apparently he's also had time to decorate) and as he breathily announces ... all this is for his and Olivia's jam and baby making future. He lifts up one corner of the covering of one piece of furniture and yes, yes, we see the keys of what appears to be an upright piano. What transpires next, Well Tempered reader, we will leave to your imagination. Suffice it to say, you'll find it in Balzac.
Episode 306 finds conniving Vice President Sally Langston contemplating an end run for the presidency. In an interior shot of her well appointed yet homespun living room, sure enough there is a grand piano lurking in the background. A serviceable dark brown piano, mind you-- reminiscent of Pat Nixon's "cloth coat." No flamboyant sable or triple lacquered ebony for this Morally Major politico. Again, everyone is too busy conspiring to play.
